Just Like Our Ancestors Did …

I am awake, I am alive, and this morning I am giggling at how (yet again) Zoom is about to mimic real life …

It happened to many of us. Zoom became the way we gathered, whether for business or pleasure. Birthdays and Thanksgiving dinners were shared over Zoom along with staff meetings and AGMs. For me, it guaranteed a recovery of my income and for that, I am thankful.

But today, for the very first time, Zoom will mimic another phenomenon I remember well from pre-Covid days – that being a jaunt between realities.

You see, back when we were doing live events, my work would often take me from a First Nation community to a ballroom in a conference centre. Occassionally, it took me from the stark reality of a northern remote to the opulence of Ottawa, London, or Toronto (leaving me thinking each time that many more should experience that difference so as to TRULY understand this country).

Today, Zoom mimics those times by first taking me to hang with some students in Igloolik, Nunavut, as I share with them just how important their voices are (thank you ConnectedNorth and TakingITGlobal for that opportunity). Then this evening, I Zoom to McGill University to discuss “The PATH” to Reconciliation. No flights, all from home, but just as vastly different as the locations have always been.

It is a strange, different, awesome time we live in, one that still offers us the opportunity to help, if only we can adapt to the changing seasons, just as our ancestors before us did time and time again.
The journey continues and for that, I am grateful.

No excuses my friend. Get out there! Make a difference! Even if only by Zoom!

I love you!
HUGSSSSSSSS
