Mind-Expanding Thoughts …

I am awake, I am alive, and as always, I am eternally grateful for the lessons and the teachers that Creator sends but mannnnnn sometimes this mind-expanding can be SO confusing!

For example, I now know without a doubt (although I have suspected for a long time) that there is no such thing as good people and bad people when it comes to things like racism, sexism and homophobia. Rather there are many, many shades of grey, accounting for the reality that “good people” can be horribly ignorant (in the truest sense of the word).

Because the reality is, we live in a country that has some highly educated individuals living in the same city, town, municipality and yes, even First Nation community, alongside those that didn’t finish school, those who quit to go to work to feed their families, those never exposed to so many things others take for granted.

The latter group genuinely do not understand transpeople or Indigenous teachings or even Canadian history, having never been exposed to such things. And demanding they learn or go “look it up” does nothing when many lack basic computer skills not to mention literacy levels.

But they are so very often … good people. Good-hearted, caring, hard-working even if they have been exposed to one too many stereotypes along the way, even if they are only good … to some?

Methinks … not.

Such is the insane puzzle that is Canada, one I am determined to enlighten in my time here but HOW will take much more contemplation. What I do works for many but judgement works for no one so … the journey continues.

“Educate, do not judge” rings in my head. Easy to say, not so easy to remember to do immediately after the ignorant words are spoken!

But I will remember … I must.

The journey continues.

I love you!
