My Side …

I am awake, I am alive, and this morning I am focusing on my side of the feather.

Imagine it, two sides, you and me, coming together and walking towards a common goal – perhaps a goal of diversity and inclusion or a goal of respect for women of all racial backgrounds. We walk together, you taking the steps you need, while I do same. I respect you and your decisions and you respect me and mine.

But that is so often not the case, for some find it easier to focus on my path rather than their own. They are filled with advice of what I should do, say, or think. They want to tell me how to live, how to breathe, how to be while rarely taking stock of their own journey. I do not hear of what they are doing. I do not hear what they think or what they share for they don’t. They simply focus on how I should or shouldn’t share.

So this is me saying clearly for all to hear – “Get off my Path! My path – my responsibility. I own everything I say or do and the things I don’t but I am trying. Are you?”

No need to answer. It matters not to me for that is your side of the feather. You carry that burden, not me. Just don’t ever think you can cross over to pick up mine.

This is how we bring the feather together my friend, with healthy assertiveness over judgment. Imagine a world where we each took responsibility for our path, took responsibility for working together, took responsibility for listening when someone shares their truth without ever telling them what to do.

Imagine a world where we help each other find our own individual solutions. Imagine that and you will know what life was like with my Mom, you will know how I came to be.

The journey continues.
