Not Thanksgiving …

I am awake, I am alive and this morning, I feel I need to say something, to clarify a few things so we can truly move forward (and if it works really well, I won’t ever have to post this again) …
.
Colonization created a false narrative, in this and in many countries, with privileged people (read: white) being raised to assume what they do, everyone does. White were raised to assume all are Christian, for example.
.
This era we are in now is a time of awakening, a time when white are now beginning to realize and see and adjust to the fact that just because they don’t see an issue, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist and conversely, just because they celebrate something, doesn’t mean we all do.
.
This new era takes thought rather than automatic responses and intent doesn’t play into it. You may have only wanted to be friendly or spread joy but is that really what you are doing when you wish an indigneous person Happy Thanksgiving? Do you assume that they wish to acknowledge the holiday that celebrates the arrival of the settlers that decimated our communities, homes, and children? Isn’t that kinda like assuming we celebrate Christmas or Canada Day?
.
My suggestion (which works almost across the board), watch and see what they do. Do not take the lead for we are suppose to be walking together aren’t we? In my world and life, should I not take the lead?
.
Nowhere on my posts or in my thread, do you see me wishing anyone Happy Thanksgiving. This weekend I celebrate the arrival of two people who made my world better not worse by their arrival – I celebrate the birthdays of my children and I appreciate every single “Happy birthday” that was sent. But please, do not wish me Happy Thanksgiving. Some indigenous still celebrate it. Feel free to wish them Happy Thanksgiving but not me because I simply don’t.
.
Thank you for hearing me. That is definitely a step in the right direction.
.
Enjoy this glorious Monday my friends, whatever you are up to!
.
I love you! HUGSSSSSSSSSSS
