I am awake, I am alive, as I consider the use of the phrase “because I can”.

I was first introduced to it by a past companion. He used it as a blanket excuse for rude or obnoxious behaviour. Being of “bigger” stature, he was confident that no one could stop him so he did and said whatever he chose simply “cuz he can”.

Since that time, I have met many who choose instead to place a positive spin on the phrase. They are the men and women who give to charity, who go the extra mile to help a friend, those who pay forward to pay back, all simply “cuz they can”.

Like with so many things, it appears it is the personal interpretation that highlights the nature of the person involved, so this morning I am wondering what do you do my friend, simply because you can?
