I am awake, I am alive, and so it begins …

For some, this is the holiest of days, the day their saviour was born. For others, it is a day to create memories, exchanging gifts and laughter with family and friends (albeit in a tighter circle this year). And for others still, it is Friday, just another day in a set of 365.

I fall into the 2nd category with the day celebrated as a day for the family. Gifts are exchanged as lives join once again, even if just for a few hours now. Days when I attempted to light up the faces of my children have been replaced with attempts to make my grandchildren cheer in delight and they never, ever disappoint.

But whatever today brings to you, I pray you take a second to just enjoy it. Enjoy that you are still here. Enjoy that you have survived. Enjoy that you still have the ability to laugh, to cry, to live and to love.

This day is hard on many, especially those alone or lost and for them I say an extra prayer. For the rest, I just say Merry Christmas.
